When it comes to emergency preparedness many people do not want to put some effort into achieving it. They say that they have their insurance policy and it will take care of everything. This is what they tell you from the TV screens. But it does not mean that they will be willing to rebuild your life after severe disasters. Insurance companies will also suffer from an emergency and they will be thinking of their own benefits and interests rather than of your ones. It is obvious. Many insurance companies in fact exclude water damage from their lists and you might not even know this fact. This means that your insurance company might not pay you for your house if it gets damaged by rain or flood. Another thing is terrorist attack. They are often qualified as acts of war and are not coverable by most insurance companies.
Even if people do not completely rely on their insurance policies, they often think that achieving emergency preparedness is too complicated and too expensive. People usually spend more time and money on achieving preparedness during cruise trips than they do in their day to day life. This belief that emergency preparedness is very expensive comes from some manufacturers who sell top level safety gear and tell people that they could not be safe until they have these items. And the truth is that there are many different ways of achieving emergency preparedness and you could always choose emergency items and equipment which is affordable.
When it comes to achieving emergency preparedness people often forget that we must help each other. Each one of us is able to educate their neighbors and family members and to help them achieve emergency preparedness. You do not require permission from Red Cross or your local administration. You could form your local emergency response group and even establish a liaison.
Many people also think that weapons of mass destructions will not give anyone chances to survive. This is not true. Most types of this weapon need to be applied under ideal conditions. And ideal conditions are something that never occurs. In fact you need to understand that mass destruction does not mean total destruction. And with family preparedness you should be able to increase your chances to survive.
One more thing that keeps many families from achieving preparedness is that people simply do not believe that anything bad may happen to them. To ensure your safety you need to educate yourself on possible emergencies that may occur in your geographic area. This is also important if you travel a lot: make sure you know what could be expected in the area you are heading to. Make sure you are always accordingly prepared.

When people get into some emergency situations they begin to blame themselves for not being prepared ahead of time. They begin to realize that more things could have been done to avoid various risks and losses. We are going to discuss some important emergency preparedness steps that could be useful to anyone.
Many people do not do anything to achieve emergency preparedness as they misunderstand the conception of preparedness itself. There are some popular myths on emergency preparedness that stop people from getting prepared to unexpected events.
The first myth is when people think that they could always call 911 and emergency people will come and rescue them. Security begins from your own preparedness, not from somebody else. This of course does not mean that you should not call for help when you need it. We just want you to make sure that there might be situations when you will be left on your own. During major and severe disasters emergency teams are unable to provide help to everyone at a time. And this means that you will have to survive on your own for a certain period of time. And if you want to ensure that your family will be safe, you need to do something to achieve better preparedness. Another important thing to think about is if your family will not require immediate help during a disaster, emergency people will be able to help other families in your neighborhood and more lives will be saved.
Another popular belief is that emergency preparedness includes having a three day disaster kit, a radio, a flashlight and some first aid supplies. Many people are sure that having all of these items is enough to consider yourself being prepared. This is a big mistake according to some survivalists. 72 hours is a very short period of time and it does not seem realistic that severe emergencies could be overcome during such a period of time. Of course, being prepared to a 72 hour emergency is better than nothing, but it is not enough for those who want to be completely prepared. If you really care about your family’s safety, it is recommended to be prepared to at least two weeks. Many natural and man-made emergencies may lead to severe and long term interruptions of regular life. And you need to be prepared to survive them.
It is impossible to create a universal list of emergency supplies and gear that will work well for all families. Each person has unique needs and that is why each emergency kit should include different things. It is highly recommended to think of possible things your family members are not able to survive without for a week or so. All these items need to be included in your emergency kit.
